In Class: Today you took your Progressives Quiz (if you were absent it's in the testing center waiting for you:)) We also intro'd Imperialism which will begin our next unit: WWI
Homework: Look through your packets (learning targets, journals, notes etc) everything should be finished with the exception of the last page (peach imperialism) and learning target day 7 which we will wrap up next class!

In Class: Today we delved into the character of TEDDY ROOSEVELT! You worked through 7 documents with your group to discover who he was (this was a challenge as you looked at his words, actions, and legacy)

Homework: We will have quiz next class period- you are allowed to use one index card on the quiz; look through your notes that you took (focus notes on essential questions, learning targets and the green page)

We talked about the industrial revolution and its spread to America; we also began the conversation on new inventions focusing on Thomas Edison and Nicola Tesla- you worked through some primary and secondary source documents to answer the question:
"How should we remember Thomas Edison?"

In Class: Today you transcribed the oral interviews you took with someone who remembers the events of 9/11; transcribing is hard work and it takes a LONG time--- however you are preserving history and creating a platform for others to understand how these events affected American's everyday lives. I hope that you enjoyed learning about these events from family/friends and that it created a deeper context and meaning for you all!

In Class: Today we began our case study of September 11, 2001. We looked at the context/causes and what occurred on the actual day. You will be taking on the role of a Historian by conducting an interview with someone who remembers the events of that day
Homework: Finish your interviews and have them ready to go next class!

In Class: Today we looked at the Emancipation Proclamation- this was a 2-part activity. You looked at the pink pages in your packet comparing the EP with Douglass' interactions with Lincoln. You discussed whether Lincoln freed the slaves, or whether the slaves freed themselves.
As a group you began to answer a DBQ, "Assess the statement, 'Abraham Lincoln deserves to be known as the Great Emancipator'. Using 4 documents you used the ACAPS method pulling out evidences to answer the question. (We will finish this up next class!)

As we went through the PowerPoint your notes should have been answering the essential question. We also talked about the Gettysburg Address and its significance at the time as well as today (purple page in packet). You answered the corresponding questions on the back.

Journal: Summarize what you learned about the Underground RailRoad into one sentence.
In Class: Today you turned in your SKILLS packet! You also received your new packet 'Civil War' This unit we will be focusing on primary sources to get a better picture of what life was like during the 1850s/60s. You took notes on page 1 of your packets (#1-6)

I introduced the ACAPS method for analyzing documents today- you will be using this method for the entirety of the school year! This is taking the skills that we have been practicing this past week an putting them together!

Journal: Tell the details of the story the 3 little pigs
In Class: Today we worked on the skill of Corroboration! (comparing sources, and seeing where they agree/disagree). You compared the story of the three little pigs (see videos below) and filled out page 7 in your yellow packet. We wrapped class up by evaluating the validity of sources (pgs. 9-10) in your yellow packet. You will be turning your packets in the next time that I see you :)
