Today in class we:
Finished filling out sections 2 & 3 in your yellow note packet (this means we finished up Unit 5). We finished the 'People of the West' posters and then presented them to the class and filled out the people of the West worksheet. If you were absent, you will need to research each person of the West and fill out the worksheet listing 5 facts for each person.
Journal: We also continued learning about essay writing, focusing on THESIS STATEMENTS. Thesis statements define the scope and purpose of the paper and need to meet the following 3 criteria:
1. It must be arguable- not a statement or a fact
2. It must be limited enough so that the paper develops in some depth
3. It must be unified so the paper does not stray from the topic.
For your Journal Entry #2 you will write a thesis statement for each topic-
- Are Political parties good for our nation?
- Why did the colonists declare independence from Great Britain?
- Why were the colonists able to win the Revolutionary War?
Homework: Fill out #11-21 on the vocab sheet in your packet (purple paper)
