Today we finished up "Una Mejor Vida".  We discussed the similarities between immigration of the past with immigration today. My hope is that you see that immigration is about people, not numbers or statistics but people.  This affects people in your community, school, and classroom.  Thank you for being respectful and listening to your classmates stories and opinions :)

WELCOME TO ELLIS ISLAND!

Today you presented your personal migration stories (my favorite project of the year :)) I hope that while listening to your classmates presentations, you have gained a greater appreciation for the 'Melting Pot' that America is, and the many cultures and customs that we have today.

We will wrap up the unit comparing immigration of the past with immigration today; as we compare and contrast these time periods, my hope is that you will gain a greater appreciation for those that came before.... and of course to remember that immigration deals with PEOPLE not numbers or statistics

CLASS COMPETITION! This week is the food drive week---- we will have a competition between the history classes! Winner does not have to take the DBQ test for our next unit, and instead will take a short quiz :)

Project: The project for this unit will be to make a collage over the 5 sections we cover in class-- this is the last page in your packet (white paper) also found under the unit 3 tab.  Each section needs 5 graphics that represents the topic. I have some samples if you would like to see one. 
 TEST: I handed back your last test..... I am a little disappointed; next time please use your study guides. Below is how you must do your test corrections: 

1. Question that was missed
2.    Why you chose the answer
3.    Correct answer
4.    EXPLANATION of why this is the correct answer
5.    Sources—where did you find this info? Must be credible (Wikipedia is not a credible source, use packet, book, PowerPoints etc.)

Journal: Do you think Colonial leaders were motivated by selfish or ideological reasons?

KEY POINTS: life, liberty, pursuit of happiness; if the government is not protecting these rights, the people have the right to a new government. We wrote break up letters to Great Britain today as well.... you can find this under the unit 2 tab.

Because of the shortened schedule this week we watched sections of SCHINDLERS LIST. We will resume learning about the U.S. in the war Friday and finish up after Spring Break! While watching, I hope that you were able to put yourselves in the shoes of those who had to endure the Holocaust.  I hope that you recognized that in the face of so much evil, there were still many good people who did everything they could to help those who were being persecuted-

In class: We got our new packets today!!! GREAT DEPRESSION.  I also introduced your project for this unit.  It will be due on March 12/13.  IF YOU WILL BE ABSENT, YOU MUST TURN IT IN BEFORE THE DUE DATE.   This will go on this terms grades, no makeups etc.
We filled out Chapter 14 section 1 of your notes, and watched section 1 of Story of Us.

Homework: If you were absent last class period you will need to make up the test and turn in your packet before Thursday of this week!

Journal: Found in the 1920's Economics, Politics, Religion PowerPoint

In class: Today we finished up your note packet! We also learned more about Al Capone and Prohibition- whatever you have not finished, will be homework! Everything in your packets are due next class period! (with the exception of the Flapper Quiz- this will be extra Credit!) You will also have your test next class. We will review before the Quiz.

Homework: Finish your Packets and Al Capone worksheet. In your packets, make sure that you have read "A Flappers Appeal to parents" pages 6-7 and filled out the questionnaire on page 8

In class: we learned about prohibition and the 18th amendment; you will need to fill out the 18th amendment sheet in your packet, and come in during intervention to get documents A, B, C & D to fill out the rubric.

Journal: What would be the hardest thing for you to sacrifice? Why?

In class: We talked about rationing and filled out the peach sheet in your packet. If you were absent fill out the peach sheet activities and a description for each hour (in your day personally) fill out all of the activities and descriptions.
Some situations have come up that you will need to ration for: In the ration column make adjustments for the following scenarios:
1. You have lost electricity for the entire day
2. Your car has broken down
3. The price of food has been raised
Once you have made the adjustments, fill out the post-activity questions on the front page.
*We also started watching the movie "All quiet on the Western Front"

Started WW1 Unit!!!!

We talked about the spark in Europe that ignited the War- in your packets (pink pages) you we filled out Section 1 #1-6- Use the PowerPoint to help you.

We also did a class simulation on alliances in WW1 :)

HOMEWORK: Complete the map in your packet (white paper) you will need to color in the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. Use different colors!
